Thief floats off with KCOT's Fantasy of Lights' parade trailer

President Kerry Fetherston told members Thursday that someone had stolen the trailer and the gingerbread house atop it – the raw float that the Kiwanis Club of Tempe has decorated, lit brilliantly and pulled through the annual Tempe Fantasy of Lights Parade in late November each year, a parade founded and organized by KCOT since 1995.

The trailer on four tires had been stored in a lot just north of Tempe Town Lake and west of Rural Road near the Route 202 (Best Western Hotel). The house was covered by a tarp. At the same time, the Tempe Family YMCA had store the old ASU School Bus it owned (Is that the Spike Lawrence Sun Devils bus?) in the lot and all its windows were smashed out.  Tempe police are investigating the theft.  If it is not recovered, KCOT will be left to start over with its annual float in the city's largest and most popular parade, typically the Friday or Saturday night immediately after Thanksgiving.
