Sponsors step up as KCOT readies for 4th of July

On Thursday, President-Elect Lance Gray, who has chaired the 4th of July Fireworks Show, announced that it is January and time to get going on the Club's major project of the year --- the Fourth of July Fireworks Show fund-raiser at Tempe Town Lake.

This year the 4th of July falls flat dab in the middle of the week – on a Wednesday, meaning it won't have the weekends to inordinately impact it.

Lance announced that two major financial sponsors have signed on – Wells Fargo for $37,500 and Cox Communication for $15,000. That comes to $52,500 at this point.   More companies will be sought for the 61st annual show.

Rob Petrucci has agreed to serve in the critical job of volunteer coordination, working to assign Kiwanis volunteers and the hundreds from the community who work in roles around Town Lake that day. The call will go out for captains for various key jobs. Please mark "4th of July – Kiwanis volunteering" on your Day Planner.  We need your hands, talents and spirit.

Club's 60th fireworks event big hit, dodges monsoon

Whew, KCOT dodged a massive bullet on the 4th of July. Had the 4th of July fireworks show come a day later – or the monsoon weather a day earlier – the tents, equipment, etc., at Tempe Beach Park would have been flattened and in Town Lake, and the crowd sent in all directions seeking shelter from the grit...
