Projects Kiwanians are urged to set one or two Saturdays in March to help Tempe Leadership in both its annual Tempe Cares project on March 3 and the “Trees and Trails” project to replace dead and dying trees in Kiwanis Park, set for March 24. Also included is a new “learning trail” that will teach the importance of trees in our community. Benefits include the way trees keep the air supply fresh by absorbing carbon dioxide and producing oxygen; and how the removal of dying trees themselves keeps more than three tons of carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere.
In December, Linda Spears announced the KCOT Board of Directors contributed $2,500 for Tempe Leadership Class XXVII’s project. You’ll hear more in coming weeks about the March 3 Tempe Cares work. The Trees and Trails planting day will begin 9 a.m. on March 24. There is also a need for financial support to purchase the trees at any of five levels: Sissoo ($25); Palo Verde ($50); Pistache ($100); Elm ($250); and Oak ($500). They include various levels of recognition such as being listed on dedication plaques. For more information, call (480) 967-7891 or info@tempeleadership.org.
